Math Notebook - Digitized!

I've finally decided to digitalize my 7th grade math notebook. I wrote a post on it a while ago, and received a lot of great feedback and encouragement to put the material in a digital form for people to download and use in their classrooms.

Well... I am currently in the process of doing that! (insert silent applause!)

Here's a little preview of the cover, table of contents, as well as a sample of one of the pages.

I have no idea how long this book will be - it's a whole textbook condensed for teaching purposes - the meat and potatoes, if you will....

I'll post when it's complete and provide a link for purchase. It will include a PDF file for download that has the blank pages (GREAT for absent students) and a master copy with the answers (GREAT for homeschoolers!)

Thanks for visiting MathNSpire! I hope you feel inspired!

Perfect Square BINGO!

I LOVE to play games.

In the classroom is my favorite place to play games. Because most of the time the students don't realize how much they are actually learning! And to see them OWN their education is priceless.

That's why I teach.

That's why I inspire.

One of my favorite games to play is when we have a concept that has been introduced in the grade (or sometimes grades) prior and we are working towards mastery. Something like teaching perfect squares in 7th grade. Students have been introduced to this topic two years prior, so we really don't need to teach it as in depth as other content. So we practice this through one of our "mini-lab" days with a fun game of Perfect Square BINGO.
I have cards that I have printed off and had laminated so that they last through out each year {Purchase your set of 20 uniquely created cards below}

Here's a sample of one of the twenty different cards I use:

You can play this game in teams if you have a large class, or individually if you have a smaller class size.

I like to also give a "small, but fabulous prize" to each winner. It's amazing what kids will do for a Jolly Rancher!

Hope you have as great of a time as I do incorporating fun teaching methods into your class!

Set of 20 Bingo Cards: $8

Points, Lines, & Planes!

I've transitioned this year from teaching nine (holy cow, that's a lot!) years of middle school to solely teaching at the high school level. While I do like teaching some of my former middle school students now in 9th - 11th grades, I do miss the opportunities to easily make up math labs for my students. It's a bit more challenging for me at the high school level - there's often A LOT of thought that has to go into my labs and games now! :)

One of the things I've done this year at my school is pilot a "flipped" classroom. This means that for homework, my students complete their notes either by Powerpoint, video, or Educreations interactive whiteboard presentation from our class site.

It. Is. Awesome.

My students come to class more prepared, and we are able to dive deeper into a lot of the concepts IN class that we wouldn't have time to before. I'm uploading my Powerpoint creations one lesson at a time and will also have a link to download an entire chapter once I am finished with the chapter.

Here's a screenshot of Lesson 1 from Chapter 1 (note: All lessons come from Glencoe's 2010 Geometry edition textbook)
